They Fight Crime!
They Fight Crime is a plot generator. Refreshing the page
gives you a new, interesting set of characters and circumstances to spark your
creativity. The scenarios it gives are meant to be funny, such as the one I
just got:
“He's a leather-clad guerilla grifter with a secret. She's a pregnant African-American magician's assistant from a family of eight older brothers. They fight crime!”
To be honest, though, I have actually gotten a few ideas from this website. They seem (are) absurd, but they’ve gotten me thinking before, imagining scenes and characters I might never have thought to write.
All in all, it’s a silly website that’s fun to play with,
that might be more helpful than you think.

Writers Free Reference
Writers Free Reference is a directory of links, containing
an assortment of categories such as publishing information, writing contests,
and general research.
The website itself is unfortunately stuck in the 1990’s,
with a pretty awful layout, but the content is good. I’ve gone through and
checked many of the links (as this was an old bookmark I recently re-discovered),
and the ones I checked were all still working (though many of the websites they
link to also haven’t been stylistically updated either).
